Building Fundraising Continues

Two Lee County departments have a ways to go to reach an important fundraising goal.

The Board of Supervisors has pledged $50,000 towards a shared building for the Conservation and Health Departments.

The pledge is contingent, though, on the departments raising $500,000 before the end of 2012.

The supervisors say that will show there is local support for the project.

Conservation Director Tom Buckley says the two departments are about 1/3 of the way to that figure after a few fundraisers and donations from their foundations.

He says they have also reached out to more than two dozen businesses and organizations.

“In most cases, people are referring our requests up to the corporate level or some higher level,” says Buckley, “so within the next two weeks, we should hear back from most of those as to what their commitment might be to the project.”

The shared building would be built along Highway 61 for a price tag of about $4-million.

The county’s contribution is needed to show local support for state and federal grants.
