LEE COUNTY
An engineering study for a proposed sewer system in rural Lee County could be completed before the end of the year.
The study will provide construction options and potential costs for people living in and around Mooar/Powdertown.
The results of the study will determine whether the sewer project moves forward.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors plans to review it before meeting with residents.
FORT MADISON
Fort Madison Main Street is in the market for a new director.
Mary Ottoson will step down before the end of the year to take a job with Frantz-Hobart Management Services.
The firm out of Cedar Rapids is interested in redeveloping buildings in Fort Madison and Burlington for commercial and residential use.
Applications are due by Friday, Dec. 7.
DONNELLSON
Central Lee Middle School took 3rd Place in a video contest connected to this week’s Bullying Prevention Summit in Des Moines, Iowa.
The online video created by a group of students was viewed more than 25,000 times.
The prize for finishing 3rd was $150.
KEOKUK
The Keokuk School Board is considering a request to restore the early retirement incentive previously offered to teachers.
Teachers who choose to take advantage of the current program will receive $40/unused sick day.
They would have also been in line for continuing health insurance and a lump sum payment just two years ago, but those aspects were dropped because of the cost.
The district’s teachers would like the incentive to again include the cash payment and the health insurance coverage.
The school board says it will consider the district’s budget and enrollment projections before making a decision on the program.
