SCC to Review Fire Training Center

SCC is putting some permanent construction in Lee County on hold for the time being.

The college wants to add classroom and lab space at the site of its Emergency Response Training Center in Fort Madison.

The facility is located about a mile south of Fort Madison Community Hospital.

SCC President, Dr. Michael Ash, said before that takes place, a review will occur to make sure that the center is the best place for the expansion.

“(We will) try to figure out what options are available,” said Dr. Ash, “and just try to think things through before putting something permanent there.”

Another option would be to use the SCC Fort Madison Center, which is located at 1602 Avenue F.

Dr. Ash says in the meantime, mobile classrooms will be added to the Emergency Response Training Center.

He says that will allow for spring semester classes or first responder training sessions.
