Keokuk Looking for New HS Principal

The Keokuk School District is in the market for a new high school principal.

Larry Frakes is leaving the district to become the next superintendent of the Northeast Hamilton School District in Blairsburg, IA.

His last day with the Keokuk School District will be June 30.

Frakes says he was looking for a job as superintendent, after serving in that capacity prior to taking the job in Keokuk in 2010.

"This was an opportunity for me," says Frakes.  "This is back in the area of the state where my family grew up.  We still have family in that area."

Superintendent Tim Hood says Friday, June 14 is the deadline to apply for the position.

The job description is available online here

It states that the district is seeking a dynamic leader who is current on instruction strategies, able to communicate with staff, students and the community and focused on continuous improvement.

Hood says the administration will review the applications, as opposed to hiring an outside firm.

The salary and benefits for the position will be passed on qualifications and experience.

It's unclear when the district hopes to have a new Keokuk High School principal in place.

The school board's next meeting is Monday, June 17.
