UPDATE - Clark County Circuit Clerk Resigns

1st Judicial Circuit Judge Gary Dial has accepted the resignation of Clark County Circuit Clerk Mary Jones.

Dial says he received the letter from Jones on Thursday, July 25.

It states, "I am resigning from my position as Clark County Circuit Clerk/Recorder effective immediately."

The resignation letter was copied to Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

The Office of State Courts Administrator is investigating possible financial improprieties in Jones' office, based on an anonymous tip.

The investigation prompted Dial to suspend Jones and bar her from the county courthouse in Kahoka, MO.

Jones has served as Clark County Circuit Clerk for nearly 20 years.

The office remains open for business.  Personnel from the State Auditor's Office will be on-hand, Monday, to begin a formal audit.
