Public Survey in Des Moines County

Des Moines County residents can now weigh in on how their property tax dollars are being spent by the county.

The county has placed a public survey on its website.  The survey is also available, in paper form, at the Des Moines County Auditor's office.

It asks residents to rank the importance of specific county services on a scale of 1-4.

The categories include economic development, secondary roads, public safety and conservation.

Budget Director Cheryl McVey says the results will help the Board of Supervisors decide how much money to allocate for each department.

She says instead of department heads requesting a specific amount of money for the upcoming fiscal year, the supervisors will select an amount that department heads must utilize.

The surveys must be completed by Friday, Jan. 3.
