Travel Still Dangerous

Rich Egger

The snowstorm that dumped several inches on Illinois has moved out of the state.  But high winds and extremely cold temperatures are causing conditions to remain dangerous.

Interstates have slick spots from where blowing snow has covered the road.  Many secondary roads are in much worse shape.

Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider said her agency has been advising the public to avoid driving.

“It's still very treacherous for motorists and we strongly encourage motorists if they don't have to travel, please don't. Stay home,” said Schneider.

Schneider said IDOT crews have been working since last week's snowfall.   The agency has listed road conditions at the website "GettingAroundIllinois.com"

Governor Pat Quinn has issued a State Disaster Declaration for all of Illinois.  That allows for all state resources, like the National Guard, to be used.
