BURLINGTON, IA
A partnership between Alliant Energy and Trees Forever will result in the planting of new trees in one southeast Iowa city.
Burlington has received a $10,000 “Branching Out” grant to plant trees in the public "right of way" due to the Emerald Ash Borer.
The city plans to remove several thousand trees due to the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer.
LEE COUNTY, IA
A meeting place in Lee County for people with mental health and other developmental disabilities will remain in its current location for another year.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors has signed off on a one-year extension of the lease for the Drop-In Center in downtown Fort Madison.
The county will pay $125/month more in rent.
The previous lease was for five years, but the county sought a shorter lease due to the ongoing revamping of Iowa’s mental health care system.
BURLINGTON, IA
Three Burlington residents have been arrested in connection with several vehicle burglaries during the last week.
Monroe Walton, 27, Nia Davis, 25, and Gerald Terry, 42, all face one count of felony possession of stolen property.
The Burlington Police Department says the vehicles were broken into at local hotels.
The stolen items include jewelry, electronics and paperwork.
KEOKUK, IA
A plan to give Keokuk’s downtown district a face-lift is moving forward.
A routine public hearing was recently held as part of the application process for a $500,000 grant.
Regional Planner Tracey Lamm says if successful, the money would be used to renovate facades in the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street.
Lamm says the money should be awarded in late April or early May with construction beginning in early 2015.
The city is contributing $50,000 while 18 participating property owners will provide at least another $150,000 total.
