Chris Spann : Return Services to Keokuk

Chris Spann says she is running for Lee County Treasurer to restore the services of the office in Keokuk.

She has worked for the county for about 7 1/2 years, the last 2 1/2 of which in the county recorder's office.  She says she transferred from the treasurer's office for personal reasons.

Spann says her passion to serve the public came from her parents, who she says were both involved in government and community service.

She says being elected Lee County Treasurer would be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Spann says her top priority is to return the services of the office to Keokuk.

The Board of Supervisors voted in 2011 to close the Keokuk branch and move all operations to the north Lee County office building in Fort Madison.

Spann strongly disagrees with that decision.

"I feel like Keokuk has lost a service that (it) should not have lost.  (Residents) pay the same amount of taxes as people in north Lee County, so I want to restore services back to Keokuk."

Spann says she would start working to restore services as soon as possible.

"I know (the supervisors) are going to set my budget, but I have the ability to have the office where I want it."

Spann says there is enough money in the budget to begin offering drivers licenses in Keokuk two days per week and in Fort Madison three days per week.

She says she could help out on-site to ensure the restoration workers.

Spann says she would eventually offer trailer registrations in Keokuk and offer the ability to make tax payments in the South Lee County Courthouse.

She says she wants to represent both north and south Lee County.

"(The reorganization) really has affected all of us, not just south lee county so i think it is going to help to have it open down here a couple days a week and up there.  Cut the lines down and everything will go smoothly."

Spann says she would improve customer service by leading with compassion and a friendly nature.
