Keokuk School District to Share Employees

A few Keokuk School District employees will get more windshield time this coming school year.

The school board has agreed to share five employees with the Harmony School District in nearby Van Buren County.

The list of employees covers multiple disciplines.

  • Media Specialist
  • Music Teacher
  • Art Teacher
  • Guidance Counselor
  • Industrial Technology Teacher

Business Manager Greg Reynolds said Keokuk was considering cutting several of these positions, so this will keep them viable.

"We are able to do this and satisfy the needs of both districts," said Reynolds.  "There are some financial incentives for the most part (as) you share the salaries and then the state has some additional incentives in place for districts that do have sharing agreements.”

Reynolds said 3 of the five positions will be considered Keokuk employees.

For the most part, they will split their time 50/50 between the two districts, which are roughly 35 miles apart.
