Glenwood Pool To Stay Open (For Now)

TSPR's Rich Egger

Macomb’s aging Glenwood Pool will have at least a couple more years of life.

Thecity and park districtagreed to continue splitting the cost of operation for the next two years.

However,, Mayor Mike Inman said closing the pool permanently will be recommended if any single repair is valued at more than $75,000.

“What we are talking about is a catastrophic mechanical failure of a pump or filtration system or something like that where you really have to say (for example) it just doesn’t make sense to put another "x" amount of dollars in this vehicle -- it would just be better to put it into a newer model,” Inman said.

In the meantime, the city and park district are seeking input on construction of a new aquatics center. That project could cost up to $6.5 million.

A referendum on a new pool will go before Macomb voters no later than November of 2015.
