No coach means no season for one Southeastern Community College sports team.

Head Coach Gary Anderson left the women's volleyball team in late February to take a similar position with another community college in Iowa.

Our goal, right now, is to move forward and hire a coach and have them in place no later than December.

Women's Athletic Director Melissa Flores said the college conducted two different searches for a head coach, but the candidates did not meet the level of experience or vision the college desired.

She said instead of rushing the process and just hiring someone, the college decided to cancel the fall women’s volleyball season.

Flores said the coaching search will re-open in late October/early November after the season comes to an end.

"And our goal, right now, is to move forward and hire a coach and have them in place no later than December," Flores said.  "To bring them in (so they can) have an opportunity to focus on setting up the program, recruiting and building a team."

Flores says there were just three players on the official roster when the decision was made to cancel the season.

She says one will transfer to another school so she can play this season without loss of eligibility.

The other two have yet to decide whether to leave and play or stay and return to the team in 2015.

Practice was scheduled to begin Friday, August 1.
