Burlington Police Investigating Two Shootings

The Burlington Police Department is "examining similarities" between a pair of shootings that occurred in the last 48 hours "in an effort to establish a connection."

Lt. Jeff Klein said the first shooting took place Monday evening at around 10:00 P.M. in the 1300 block of Valley Street.  He said when officers arrived at the scene, they found spent shell casings and blood in the street.

Klein said officers eventually learned that a person was being treated at Great River Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the neck.  That person has been identified as Reggie Flex, 25, of Chicago.

Klein said Flex is currently in the intensive care unit at University of Iowa Hospitals.

The second shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at around 3:45 P.M. in the 1500 block of Smith Street.

Klein said a bullet struck a home, but there were no injuries reported.  He said witnesses told officers "a small SUV traveled westbound past the residence and fired several rounds from inside of the vehicle toward an individual on the sidewalk and then fled the area."
