McDonough District Hospital will add more offices for health care providers at its campus in Macomb.
The offices will be housed in the addition to Health Services Building 2. The two-story addition was built a couple years ago, but MDH President and CEO Kenny Boyd said the second floor has remained just a shell until now.
“We are going to be building out the second floor of the addition to turn it into a family medicine clinic,” Boyd said.
“It will be housing some current physicians in addition to new physicians that are coming on this summer.”
He said the hospital has budgeted $1.4 million for the project. He hoped to have it completed by the beginning of July. He said the offices will be filled as soon as they’re ready.
Boyd set there will be offices for seven providers – four physicians and three nurse practitioners.
“Healthcare is moving from a reactive type of industry to population health management and keeping communities well. And with that comes an increased need for primary care,” said Boyd, adding, “There’s always been a need for additional access to primary care in the community.”
He said the front half of the first floor of Health Services Building 2 is occupied, but back half of the floor remains empty. “We have a couple of things that we’re evaluating to see if they would work there,” he said.
