The Keokuk School Board met behind closed doors for more than two hours Wednesday night, narrowing the field of candidates in its search for the district's next superintendent. The board settled on two candidates: Kathy Dinger and Christine Barnes.

Dinger is currently the superintendent of the Bushnell-Prairie City School District in Illinois while Barnes is the current superintendent of the Colon School District in Michigan.

Keokuk School Board President Janne Long said each candidate will be interviewed individually on Monday (June 26), one at 12:30 p.m. and one at 3:00 p.m. Each interview will be conducted in private.

The school board scheduled another closed session for 5:30 p.m. to discuss the interviews and possibly make a selection.

Long said the board's goal is to reach an agreement on a contract with the new superintendent before introducing that person to the public. She said eventually a meet/greet will be held to introduce the new superintendent to the community.

Long said the goal of the school board is to offer the job before July 1. That's because the district's current superintendent is leaving June 30 to take a shared superintendent job in southwest Iowa.
