Michael Greenwald won Tuesday's run-off election for the 5th ward seat on the Keokuk City Council.

Michael Greenwald won Tuesday's run-off election for the 5th Ward seat on the Keokuk City Council with 85 votes, defeating Steve Rairden, who received 34 votes.

Greenwald also received the most votes during last month's city election, but he did not meet the 50% plus one vote threshold to avoid the run-off. Rairden finished second in November allowing him to advance as well.

Voter turnout was much lower compared to the November city election when nearly 400 residents of the 5th ward voted in the city council race. Just 119 people decided yesterday's run-off election.

Greenwald will take the oath of office in January, replacing Sandy Pollitt, who chose not to seek re-election.

Greenwald spoke with Tri States Public Radio about his campaign in October. You can hear that interview here.
