It might be Tuesday evening before a stretch of Route 136 fully re-opens in eastern McDonough County. The highway was closed late Sunday afternoon because a train derailed between Adair and Table Grove.
Crews are still working to clear the scene, but McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director Edgar Rodriguez said one lane was opened to traffic late Monday afternoon.
Rodriguez said nine train cars were affected by the derailment. Three contained isobutylene, which is a colorless, flammable gas. He said no hazardous materials were spilled and no one was injured.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
As a precaution, BNSF crews are replacing the tracks in the area where the derailment happened.
UPDATE: Route 136 reopened to all traffic Tuesday night, January 15.
