Several fire departments spent Sunday night battling a house fire just west of Macomb. The fire destroyed the end unit on a row of townhomes in the Georgetown subdivision.
David Estes, Chief of the all-volunteer Emmett-Chalmers Fire Protection District, said the call came in at 10:45 p.m. Sunday.
“We were able to relatively quickly knock it down. It was pretty well involved when we got on scene.”
He said they called the Macomb Fire Department, Colchester Fire Department, and Good Hope Fire Departments for backup. He said MFD was actually the first to the scene.

“Due to the nature of the call and the townhouses there, had it been spreading past the first house we wanted to make sure we had enough people,” Estes said. “Fortunately, it didn’t spread.”
Estes said the person living at 80 S. Yorktown Road was fine and no injuries were reported. He said the fire started in the back of the home and burned through the roof. The single-story residence is no longer habitable due to fire damage.
“Life safety is our number one priority so we want to make sure everybody is out of the house, everybody is accounted for and safe, and the firefighters stay safe as well. Beyond that, its stabilize the incident and conserve any property,” Estes said.
He said fire fighters were on scene until 2:30 a.m. Monday. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Criminal activity is not suspected.
