Dog Attack Leaves One Dead, Two Injured in Fort Madison

Interim Police Chief Stacy Weber said Fort Madison police officers were called to the 100 block of Avenue C on Friday morning. They found a large dog attacking a man who was on his back in the front yard.

Weber said officers had to shoot the dog to stop it from attacking the man, whose identity has not been released. He said while officers and first responders treated the unidentified man, a second victim was found.

Weber said Robert Quick, 33, of Dallas City was laying in the doorway of the home. Quick told officers to help his 5-year-old daughter, who had been bitten in the face by the dog.

Weber said despite attempts to save Quick’s life, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy is pending.

Weber said the dog did not belong to anyone it attacked. He said the occupants of the home were keeping the dog for a family member.

A GoFundMe pagehas been established. As of Sunday morning, 68 people had donated more than $2,500.
