The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has released the name of the Fort Madison police officer who shot and killed someone during an investigation on December 10.

Officer Cory Brown is a six-year veteran of the department.  He is on paid administrative leave while the DCI continues to investigate the case.

The DCI said Brown was responding to a 911 call about someone armed with a weapon at Scott’s Miracle Grow warehouse. Officers said when they arrived, they found Robert Elfgen brandishing a firearm.

Brown shot Elfgen, who was pronounced dead at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

The DCI said its findings will be forwarded to the Iowa Attorney General’s office for review.
