Chamber of Commerce organizations throughout the region are providing numerous resources for local businesses to help them through the economic chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pam Gaither, Executive Director of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, said her organization is acting as a connector for businesses.

“Whether we’re connecting you to resources or to a member who we know excels in an area, we want to position (our organization) to be a place where you can turn to when you’re looking for help,” Gaither said. “And we can help direct you into the path that’s going to be the easiest route to get that solution.”

The Chamber’s “COVID-19 Resource Link” provides access to its various offerings including business tools, grant and loan information, non-profit collaborations, and mental health guidance.

“We might not be able to answer a question, but we can find a resource [to provide an answer],” Gaither said.

“I think the benefit to the Chamber is that we’re easy to approach. . . and we can be a point person to find solutions.”

Over the past few weeks, the Chamber has helped small businesses understand the CARES Act, walking businesses through the federal economic assistance programs.  Gaither said the Chamber can help if business owners are looking for loans or grants. She said owners should also talk to bank lenders, who have the most up-to-date information.

Gaither said some businesses have turned to mobile and online sales. She believes social media is a good option right now for businesses considering new ways of branching out.

“Think of creative ideas, and keep communicating,” she said.
