Furloughs at Monmouth City Hall

Monmouth City Hall

The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is being felt at City Hall in Monmouth.   The city administration said it issued mandatory furloughs to seven full-time and three part-time employees:

  • 2 full-time police officers
  • 2 full-time dispatch telecommunicators
  • 1 full-time public safety officer
  • 2 probationary firefighters
  • 3 part-time dispatchers

The city said it intends to bring back the furloughed workers when finances allow it.
The city is projecting a $1 million revenue shortfall due to a decrease in various state and local tax collections. The city said those decreases are the result of the temporary shutdown of businesses locally and across the state as part of the effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The city is also suspending all expenses “that do not pose a complication to critical services.”
