Charges Filed in Galesburg Fatal House Fire

Police arrested a man who investigators said intentionally set a house fire that killed a woman on Sunday, February 14.

Donald Denniston, 38, is charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Arson.

The fire department found Katrina Hainline, 60, dead inside the home at 261 Pine Street.

Another person, Boyd Black, 50, escaped from the house. Black suffered burns and was taken to the hospital.

The city said the house "had been placarded as unfit for habitation."

The fire and police departments were called to the house at 12:45 a.m. Sunday. The house was engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene and adjacent homes were evacuated.

The Galesburg Police and Fire Departments and the Knox County State’s Attorney’s office conducted the investigation.
