Western Illinois University said this week's mass COVID-19 vaccination clinics will still take place on the Macomb campus. They will use the two-dose Moderna vaccine rather than the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine as originally scheduled.
Second dose clinics will be held within 28 days. Those have yet to be scheduled.
In addition, this week’s clinics are being opened up to include all WIU and Spoon River College faculty, staff, and students, as well as residents of McDonough, Fulton, Schuyler, Hancock, Warren, and Henderson counties who are 18 or older.
WIU, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the McDonough County Health Department, and the Illinois National Guard are collaborating to hold the clinics, which will take place Wednesday, April 14, and Thursday, April 15, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the WIU Student Recreation Center.
UPDATE on Wednesday, April 14: Walk-ins are being accepted and registration is no longer required. Participants must register in advance, and completed and bring with them the signed consent form.
Meanwhile, next week's walk-in clinic in Henderson County has been canceled while federal health authorities investigate reports of possibly dangerous blood clots in patients who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
