Galesburg police seek information in city’s second fatal shooting of 2022

Galesburg police are seeking information about a shooting that left a 42-year-old man dead.

Police were called to the 600 block of West Brooks Street around 6:45 p.m. Friday. They found Tommie L. Martin suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso.

Martin was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center, where he later died.

Illinois State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

This is the second fatal shooting in Galesburg so far in 2022.

The first was on Jan. 22, at the Cedar Creek Place public housing complex.

Demetrius D. Gibbs, 31, was killed in that shooting.

Police later issued a warrant for first degree murder warrant for the Jan. 22 shooting for Mercedes B. Jones, 32, while he was hospitalized with gunshot wounds of his own.
