A Hancock County farmer died after becoming trapped in a grain bin.
The Hamilton and Warsaw fire departments, Hancock County EMS, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a farm near Sutter at 12:34 p.m. Wednesday.
Emergency personnel were notified at the scene that Calvin Baumann, 75, of Basco, was trapped in the bin after attempting to clear a blockage from the unloading auger.
Responders cut holes in the sides of the bin and began removing soybeans from it.
Baumann was located and removed from the bin, but was beyond life-saving measures, according to a release from the Warsaw Rural Fire Protection District.
Hancock County Coroner Kendall Beals was called to the scene and pronounced Baumann dead.
