One man was killed and two people were injured in a crash at U.S. Route 34 at Sixth Street.

A woman seriously injured in a crash Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 34 at Sixth Street in Monmouth has died.

Jack K. Stephens, 91, of Monmouth was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner.

His wife, Joy R. Stephens, 80, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to an area hospital for treatment. She died the following day in Peoria.

The accident occurred at 3:12 p.m. in the westbound lane of U.S. Route 34 at Sixth Street, according to the Illinois State Police.

A Jeep Wrangler driven by Shawn P. Runge, 55, of Morris, was westbound at that location.

For unknown reasons, Runge failed to stop at the stoplight and struck the passenger side of the Stephens' Honda CRV as that vehicle was making a left hand turn onto Sixth Street.

Runge was cited for disobeying a traffic control device and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
