Suspect identified in fatal Galesburg shooting


Galesburg police have identified a suspect and issued an arrest warrant in a fatal shooting early Sunday on Grand Avenue.

Asheem M. Afutu, 33, is wanted on charges of first degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

They determined the shooting occurred in an empty lot, where several vehicles were found with bullet holes.

Officers later learned that Gregory D. Tucker, 31, was taken to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in a private vehicle for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Tucker was then taken to OSF St. Francis in Peoria, where he later died.
