The cause of the fire at Stockdale Center at Monmouth College is under investigation.

No one was inured in a fire Thursday afternoon at Monmouth College, but a campus building sustained damage.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Morefield said firefighters were called to Stockdale Center on campus just before 2 p.m. and found smoke coming from the southwest corner of the building.

Firefighters then entered the building on a lower level.

Morefield said a dry goods storage area was on fire, behind the cafeteria.

The Monmouth Fire Department, Central Warren Fire District, and Galesburg Fire Department were on scene, in addition to the Monmouth Police Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Morefield said the extent of the damage is not yet known, but there is smoke damage throughout the building.

All students and staff members were able to exit the building safely.
