Galesburg murder suspect in custody

A man wanted on murder charges for a fatal Galesburg shooting in July is now in custody.

Asheem Afutu, 30, was booked in the Knox County jail on a warrant issued in July.

He is charged with the murder of Gregory Tucker, 31.

Tucker was shot in an empty lot in the 2100 of Grand Avenue.

He was taken by private vehicle to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg for treatment of a gunshot wound, and later sent to a Peoria hospital, where he died.

Several vehicles were damaged in the shooting.

Afutu is also charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Bond is set at $1 million.

Reusch court case to continue next year

A status hearing will be held early next year for a Macomb accountant charged with felony theft.

Prosecutors accuse Al Reusch, 68, of making transactions from a checking account owned by BBB, Inc., during a two-year period. The transactions totaled nearly $110,000.

The charges were first filed in January 2022.

Reusch has pleaded not guilty and has asked for a jury trial.

Juvenile detained in Burlington shooting 

A juvenile is charged with willful injury and intimidation with a weapon in a Burlington shooting that injured two people.

Police responded to the 9th and Locust streets and found shell casings and blood on the ground.

A 17-year-old and 21-year-old were treated for gunshot wounds at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center. Their injuries were not life threatening.

The juvenile was referred to Juvenile Court Services.

McDonough County traffic stop leads to meth arrests

Two west central Illinois residents face drug charges following a traffic stop in McDonough County during the early morning hours of October 26.

The sheriff’s department said the vehicle was stopped near Adair after a deputy saw the driver commit several traffic violations.

Authorities said they found packaged methamphetamine, loaded methamphetamine syringes, and other drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Natacha Deweese, 33, of Havana and Kevin Masten, 45, of Macomb are each charged with four drug offenses:

· Delivery of Methamphetamine 5-15 grams

· Possession of Methamphetamine 5-15 grams

· Possession of a Narcotic Instrument

· Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Deweese is also charged with several traffic violations.

Iowa man charged with Macomb burglary

Macomb police arrested a Dubuque man while he was committing a burglary.

Police were called to the 500 block of West Pierce Street and took the suspect into custody.

He was later identified as William Thomas, 41. Police found several stolen items in his possession.

Thomas is charged with burglary, obstructing identification, and possession of cannabis.

He also had two warrants in Iowa for burglary and parole violation.

Macomb man killed in Springfield accident

The Sangamon County Coroner has confirmed the death of a 77-year-old Macomb man following a traffic accident.

The man was transported from the crash at 2nd and Madison streets in Springfield to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has not been released.

An autopsy is being conducted and the death is under investigation.
