Amtrak to restore morning trains between Chicago and Quincy

Amtrak trains 381 leaving Chicago at 7:35 a.m. and 380 leaving Quincy at 6:12 a.m. will resume service on Monday.

The morning trains that stop in Macomb and Galesburg along the way had been suspended since mid-November, due to staffing shortages.

Per Amtrak employees’ collective bargaining agreement, employees can use seniority to choose what shifts and routes they want to work.

That left Amtrak without enough staff to operate the trains for about two months.

Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari said the service was restored as planned.

He said tickets have been on sale for the restored trains for some time, and service is not expected to be suspended again for the forseeable future.
