The Keokuk Board of Education has narrowed the list of superintendent candidates from eight to three.

Each of the three finalists has ties to the community:

  • Adam Magliari currently serves as principal at Keokuk High School. Magliari has also served as vice principal at Keokuk Middle School and was an elementary school and secondary school teacher for 11 years. Magliari is planning to graduate this year with his doctorate from the University of Northern Iowa.
  • Kathy Dinger has a doctorate and serves as the superintendent of the Bushnell-Prairie City School District in western Illinois. Dinger is a Keokuk native who still lives in the city. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Western Illinois University.
  • Gary Benda serves as the superintendent of the Starmont and West Central school districts in eastern Iowa. Benda previously served as vice principal at Keokuk High School and the principal at Keokuk Middle School. Benda is also pursuing a doctorate at the University of Northern Iowa, which he anticipates finishing later this year.

The Keokuk School Board is scheduled to conduct formal interviews on Jan. 19.
The next superintendent will succeed interim Superintendent Dan Mart, who has served in that position since the 2021-2022 school year.

The new superintendent is expected to begin work on July 1.
