Galesburg woman killed in I-74 accident

A Galesburg woman was killed in a car accident involving a semi truck Thursday morning on Interstate 74.

Illinois State Police say the 42-year-old woman was eastbound near Brimfield when she lost control on slick pavement and struck a guardrail.

That sent the vehicle into the left lane and into the path of the semi truck.

Police say the driver of the truck was attempting to slow down but was unable to avoid hitting the car.

The woman was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where she was pronounced dead.

Monmouth man in custody for stabbing girl

An 18-year-old Monmouth man is in custody after stabbing a 14-year-old Michigan girl he met over social media.

Deputies were called to a Springfield Township home in southwestern Michigan where the girl was bleeding from wounds to her back and midsection.

The Monmouth man fled but was arrested after he called 911. He told deputies he became angry when the girl refused to have sex with him.

The girl was expected to undergo surgery for her injuries.

Attempted murder verdict in Galesburg shooting

After a three-day trial, a Knox County jury found a Galesburg man guilty of attempted murder for a March 2022 shooting at Belle Isle Apartments.

Brandon Wilson, 38, was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated discharge, and aggravated battery with a firearm.

The victim in the shooting suffered a gunshot wound to the torso.

Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin said the verdict is an example of the prioritizing prosecution of violence and gun crimes.

Wilson will remain in custody until sentencing hearing later this year.
