Police: Macomb woman fatally stabbed husband

Investigators were still on the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Portia Garrison, 28, is charged with first-degree murder.

A Macomb woman is charged with first-degree murder after reportedly stabbing her husband at home while two children were present.

Portia Garrison, 28, is in custody at the McDonough County jail awaiting a court appearance.

Police responded to the 1600 block of Wheeler Circle at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday and found a man on the floor with a stab wound.

Ricky Haymer, 27, was treated at the scene and then taken by ambulance to McDonough District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 a.m.

Garrison stabbed Haymer during a domestic altercation, according to a release from the Macomb Police Department.

The two children in the home were take into protective custody.

Police said the hospital room where Haymer was treated for injuries was secured as part of the investigation.

Illinois State Police assisted with the investigation.
