Commercial properties like this one in the 1100 block of Main Street in downtown Keokuk are vacant and available to buy or lease.

Main Street Keokuk, Inc. will give a free tour of the city’s downtown commercial properties that are available to buy or lease.

Director Kira Kruszynski said the “Imagine the Possibilities Tour” will be held Wednesday, March 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Kruszynski said the tour is like those she has seen in other communities to attract potential businesses and developers.

“It's not an original idea,” Kruszynski said. “I'd really love to claim it, but actually there are a lot of other communities that have used something similar as a way to kind of highlight those available spaces and get folks into them.”

Kruszynski said the tour will include properties located between the 400 and 1300 blocks of Main Street, plus three other properties located off Main.

“The tour is open to everyone. We’re hoping folks that are looking to invest will come and take a look at them,” she said.

“There’s a lot of opportunities with small businesses in the downtown area, either folks who might be looking to move into the downtown as a new business, or maybe transitioning a home business into a brick-and-mortar one, or someone who may be looking to expand just to open a second location.”

She also said new businesses have recently located to town, but more properties are available to both commercial and residential buyers. She would like to see them occupied.

She said developers, entrepreneurs, investors, and residents are encouraged to attend.
