A man found dead in the Mississippi River at Burlington has been identified.
Christopher, M. Fenton, 35, of Stronghurst was found dead in the river around 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Burlington Police Department.
Police initially responded about 12 hours earlier to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the north boat ramps.
They found an unattended truck and boat trailer there. A further search revealed an unoccupied boat north of the BNSF bridge on the Illinois side.
Authorities found the body between the north boat ramp and the BNSF bridge.
The circumstances of Fenton’s death are still being investigated.
Police were assisted by the Burlington Fire Department, Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, Des Moines County Conservation, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, MedForce, and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
