One dead after shooting at Macomb house party

One person is dead and others were treated for gunshot wounds after an early morning shooting at a house party in Macomb.

Macomb police responded to a report of shots fired around 1:55 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

An emergency alert from Western Illinois University said the caller reported the shooting was in the 500 block of North Johnson Street.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple people were wounded and taken to McDonough District Hospital.

The hospital went on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Some victims were triaged at MDH and then transported to other hospitals.

Police said early reports indicate there was a fight that led to the shooting.

They believe it's likely video of the shooting exists. Anyone with video is asked to email citizenconcerns@macombpolice.com.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and there is not a threat to the public.

UPDATE from WIU: A media briefing will take place at 1p.m. Saturday, March 25 at the Macomb City Hall Community Room.

Western Illinois University Athletics events will be canceled for the weekend; all other University events will continue as scheduled.

The University Counseling Center will be open for walk-ins or appointments for support services from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today. Students can call (309) 298-2453.

The Office of Public Safety suggests everyone be vigilant about being aware of their surroundings. Individuals with information should call 9-1-1 immediately or contact Macomb Area Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or (309) 836-2222.
