The National Weather Service says a long-track EF-3 tornado ran north of Lewistown and through the village of Bryant on Tuesday night.
The tornado traveled 18.7 miles between a rural area southwest of Lewistown to just south of Canton in Fulton County. Peak winds were measured at 160 miles per hour.
Four people were injured. There were no deaths reported.
The NWS says a weaker EF-1 tornado also traveled through Table Grove in far western Fulton County. The same massive supercell storm produced both tornadoes, along with baseball sized hail.
As of Thursday morning, the Fulton County ESDA estimated Illinois Route 100 between Illinois 97 and 78 would be cleared and reopened to traffic by Friday afternoon. The roadway is currently completely blocked by utility trucks. Sixty-five utility poles were knocked down along Illinois 100.
Fulton County ESDA is asking people to avoid the impacted areas and refrain from sightseeing. Several emergency response agencies are conducting damage assessments. Bryant sustained major damage, with a number of destroyed and damaged homes. Volunteers aren't currently needed, but people seeking to help are asked to donate to the Salvation Army in Canton.
