One person is dead after an incident involving an Amtrak passenger train in Macomb.

Amtrak notified the Macomb Police Department of the incident at 9:29 p.m. Thursday.

Police responded to the scene near Jackson and Clay streets to investigate the incident involving a westbound Illinois Zephyr 383 train, which runs from Chicago to Quincy.

The Macomb Fire Department and McDonough County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Deja A. McCray, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. In a release, police said her death was an apparent suicide.

An alert from Amtrak stated that as of 9:59 p.m., the Illinois Zephyr was stopped due to a “trespasser incident.”

A later alert from Amtrak stated the train was back on the move and was operating four hours and 15 minutes behind schedule.

No foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
