A Knox County correctional officer waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Matthew Ferry, 25, is on administrative leave from the Knox County jail.
He is accused of pointing his duty weapon at a woman during a domestic dispute on July 5. He was off-duty at the time.
Ferry was arrested July 11 on a warrant and posted bond.
He appeared in Knox County court Monday before Ninth Circuit Judge James Standard.
The charge is a misdemeanor. Ferry faces a sentence of up to a year in the Knox County jail, a fine of $2,500, or a combination of a jail sentence and a fine.
Ferry is represented by a private defense attorney in the case.
