The Macomb Arts Center will celebrate two anniversaries this weekend. The organization is marking 20 years since it incorporated as a not-for-profit, and 15 years since acquiring its home on the east side of the courthouse square.

“We will have hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and live music,” said Nancy Crossman, executive director of the MAC. She said the event will be held from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 at the arts center.

“At 7:30, we’re going to have information about things that have happened here in the past, things that are happening now, and some of our plans for the future.”

Crossman said the MAC has done reasonably well for an all-volunteer organization and is always looking for more people to help out. She said the organization could offer more programs, workshops, and classes if it had more volunteers.

She said some of the programming currently offered is free and some is fee-based. The MAC hosts 8-10 exhibits per year and also holds concerts, plays, a three-week theater-based program for children, and more.

In addition to the fees charged for some programs, the MAC also raises money through memberships, donations, grants, and some art sales.

Crossman said one of the MAC’s next goals is to replace the flooring on the first floor of its building. It’s in the midst of a fundraising campaign to do so.

If you look around, you can see that the carpet that went in in 1986 is deteriorating. So that’s our biggest fundraiser right now – to improve the first floor,” she said.

Crossman said the MAC also hopes to continue growing its membership, programming, and volunteer base.
