A Macomb man is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm following a shooting shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
Herman Hill, 38, is in custody at the McDonough County Jail.
Police said they were called to Pierce and Johnson streets on a report of shots fired. At the same time, a person with multiple gunshot wounds showed up at the front entrance to the police department.
Police said he drove himself there. That person was then taken to McDonough District Hospital and later life flighted to a trauma center.
MDH was locked down for a while as a security precaution.
St. Paul’s School, which is near the police department, also imposed a precautionary soft lockdown during student arrival time Tuesday morning.
Police said they are “highly confident” this was an isolated incident and that the only shooter in the case has been arrested.
