A new $3.9 million VA Clinic is coming to Galesburg.
“The project should begin soon and then be ready 18 months later provided there are no delays due to things like the weather,” said Jamie Johnson, public affairs officer for Iowa City VA Health Care System.
The expanded Lane A. Evans VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will be in the former Bergner’s department store at the shuttered Sandburg Mall, 1090 W. Carl Sandburg Drive.
At 19,000 square feet, it will be nearly double the size of the current clinic at 310 Home Blvd., which was built 2013. Prior to that, the clinic was at 387 E. Grove St.
The clinic was named after the late Congressman Lane Evans in 2014.
Galesburg’s VA clinic is part of the Iowa City VA Health Care System.
The new clinic will offer expanded services.
Bergner’s closed in Galesburg in 2018, and the VA is renting the space.
The former retail space was also used by the Knox County Health Department as a vaccination clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Project costs include buildout, and HVAC, plumbing, and electrical upgrades.
