Weather-related announcements and cancellations for Jan. 8-10

A winter storm warning is in effect for the region through Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities says a prolonged, strong winter storm will case moderate to major impacts across the region.

Meteorologists advise travel will be difficult, with impacts expected through Wednesday morning.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the region from 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Threats include heavy snow, with periods of blowing and drifting snow Tuesday. Isolated power outages are possible.

A rain-snow mix over west central Illinois may reduce snowfall totals.

School Announcements

  • Western Illinois University is under a winter weather advisory Wednesday, Jan. 10. The university is open and campus buildings are accessible. Students, faculty, and staff are asked to use their judgment regarding attendance and road conditions.
  • Galesburg Community School District will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Abingdon-Avon School District will not be in session Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Monmouth-Roseville School District will have an e-learning day Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Knoxville Community School District will be closed Wednesday, January 10.
  • All Southeastern Community College sites will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • LaHarpe Community School District will not be in session Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Dallas City Elementary School District will be closed, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Illini West High School will have an e-learning day on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • West Prairie will have an e-learning day on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • West Burlington School District will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Burlington Community School District will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Keokuk Christian Academy will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Central Lee Community School District will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • Keokuk Public and Catholic Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Municipal Announcements

  • The City of Macomb has a snow emergency in effect from 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 to noon Wednesday, Jan. 10. No vehicles should be parked on a street that has been designated as a snow route in the city.
  • A snow emergency for the City of Galesburg will go into effect at 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8. Parking will be prohibited on all Galesburg city streets during the snow emergency. Vehicles parked on city streets (except in the central business district) during this time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The emergency will be lifted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
  • The City of Monmouth has a snow emergency in effect from 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10. Any vehicles parked on a snow emergency route need to be moved.

Other announcements:

  • Milestones will not be doing Home Delivered Meals to seniors on Wednesday, Jan. 10 in the following counties: Appanoose, Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Lucas, Mahaska, Monroe, Muscatine, Van Buren, Wapello, and Wayne.
