The city of Macomb has shut down the community’s movie theater for the time being.
During a scheduled inspection on Jan. 19 at the Rialto Cinemas, 1405 E. Jackson St., the city found what it considered to be significant issues.
There are multiple leaks in the roof, and some of the water coming into the building is getting into the electrical panels, creating major safety issues for customers and staff.
Community Development Coordinator John Bannon said the theater’s owners, VIP Cinema Group, agree the building needs a new roof.
He said they’re working with VIP to resolve the problems.
“They’re a valued asset in the community,” he said.
The building will need to pass a city inspection before it can open again.
