Low flood risk for Mississippi River
The National Weather Service said there is a below normal risk for flooding along the Mississippi River this spring.
The NWS issued its Spring Flood Outlook Update on Feb. 15
It said there is not much snowpack in the region or in the headwater areas to the north. In addition, soil moisture levels are normal or below normal, which will allow the ground to soak up precipitation.
Changes in the weather could change the flood outlook.
Upgrades to Monmouth Public Square
Work is set to begin soon on a significant renovation of Momouth’s Public Square.
The project will improve both the function and look of the space, beginning with upgrading a water main.
The city expects minimal disruption for residents and businesses as that project is being completed.
Then an extensive streetscape beautification project will begin in June.
State funds for Galesburg buses
The city of Galesburg is getting more than $57 million in state money for new buses.
That will pay for seven mid-sized buses for the city’s transit system.
The funding is from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The city is also getting two battery-electric transit vehicles and charging systems with funding from the Federal Transit System.
Monmouth child porn arrest
A Monmouth man is charged with four counts of possessing child pornography.
Police served a warrant on 37-year-old Bradley Nelson last week in the 1000 block Cramer Court.
Police then seized a large amount of materials related to the charges from the residence.
