Illinois State Police are seeking the public’s help in an investigation related to the death of a 23-year-old Galesburg woman in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 55.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 1, a vehicle crashed and rolled over in Grundy County near Braceville, around 30 miles southwest of Joliet, leaving the driver trapped inside the vehicle.

State police said Destiny Dixon – a Galesburg mother of two young daughters who attended Carl Sandburg College – was one of the “Good Samaritans” who stopped along the interstate to help the trapped driver.

Dixon was standing near the crashed vehicle when another vehicle drove through the crash scene at a high rate of speed, hitting Dixon and a man.

Dixon later died as a result of her injuries.

The driver fled the scene northbound on Interstate 55 and was last seen in the area of the Interstate 80 interchange.

The vehicle has been identified as a dark gray 2010-2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor, that sustained significant damage to the front left corner, left-side headlight, and left-side mirror.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact ISP Sergeant Cary Morin at (779) 243-4770 or Grundy County Crime Stoppers at (815) 942-6645.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
