Bench trial set for former martial arts coach charged with sexual abuse

Court news from Tri States Public Radio.

The case of a former Galesburg martial arts coach accused of sexually abusing minors will be decided by a judge, not a jury.

Beau Admire, 43, who ran the former Badger Combatives in downtown Galesburg, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, following three separate incidents in Monmouth.

Admire appeared in Warren County court on Friday morning for a final pretrial conference in the case, and waived his right to a jury trial.

The bench trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 30.

Last month in court, Admire’s attorney told the judge his client was not interested in plea deals offered by the state.

Admire was arrested Nov. 2, 2022, in Knox County on a $100,000 warrant. He was released from the Warren County jail on bond later that month.

All three charges are Class 1 felonies, carrying sentences of up to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The aggravated criminal sexual abuse charge alleges an act of sexual misconduct with a minor over whom Admire held a position of trust, supervision, or authority.
