A Southeastern Community College student who died this week was a soccer player from Japan.

Hwangki Cho was a second semester freshman at the school.

His body was found Monday, April 8 in a residence hall on the campus in West Burlington.

College President Michael Ash said they’re awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. In a release, Ash said there is “no present evidence to suggest foul play.”

He urged against speculation and asked people to respect the privacy and dignity of Cho and his family.

The school canceled classes and activities Monday afternoon and Tuesday. Counseling services remain available.

Ash said planning is underway to honor the memory of Cho in the coming days.
