Tri States Public Radio’s news team brought home three awards from the Public Media Journalists Association Conference last week at NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C.

News Director Rich Egger won first place in the Narrative/Produced Podcast category for “The ER,” an episode in TSPR’s Welcome to Forgottonia podcast.

The episode chronicles the aftermath of a house party shooting in Macomb, when multiple victims were taken to the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital.

Regional Reporter Jane Carlson won two second-place awards for reporting. Her story “Something Doesn’t Seem Right” about suspicious bills from the former Galesburg Cottage Hospital was recognized in the Health/Medical Feature category.

Her story about the Galesburg Community Foundation’s Hunger Collaborative was recognized in the News Feature category.

Carlson attended the PMJA conference at NPR headquarters.

There were nearly 1,500 entries from 144 organizations in this year’s PMJA contest.

Awards are presented in five different size divisions. TSPR competes in Division A, based on staff size.
